In the book of I Corinthians the Apostle Paul was inspired to write that 'God uses foolish things to confound the wise'.I often feel as if he is speaking directly to me, 'Foolish Things'. The good news is God really wants to use us to proclaim His love and life to people. God really, really does want to use people. He always has. So, what is the criteria of being used by this great and wonderful God? There are a few things I see in Scripture that help me personally in this area. First, God is looking for those who are not afraid to be used. Someone has said that the 'Fear of People' and 'Fear of Failure' are two of the main reasons some people do not step in faith to be used by God. The old story of David and Goliath is key to helping us overcome our fears of being used by God. We know the story, it was a nine foot tall warrior- giant or giant-warrior named Goliath and a small teen-age boy named David. Yet, one stone and fast sling later, the giant is under the feet of this young man. How did He do it? He had enough insight to recognize that there was a CAUSE .. there was a REASON to stand up and stand against the vile enemy of God's army. And isn't it still true today? We need someone who will rise to the occasion and stand against the forces of darkness... Fear Not!! God is on our side. God has never lost a skirmish, battle or war and he will not allow us to lose now! David had hindsight.., in other words he knew what God had done before..a small altercation with a bear and lion helped to jog his memory and solidify his faith. If God helped him then, He would help him now. Then David must have had some foresight.. Foresight is defined as the ability to see ahead.. We know we can't literally see into the future, but that's why the Scripture says we walk by FAITH and not sight. David's foresight was simply child-like faith. A faith that says..God is with me and He will enable me to handle this task , this problem, this enemy. What has God called you to do? The Apostle says in the passage we alluded to that God has CALLED us... and if He calls us He will enable and equip us to meet the challenge.
